Toby Baker Updated by Toby Baker

Network Installation

A typical network installation is performed using one of the workstation computers (e.g. "Workstation 1" depicted below). The installer is run on Workstation 1 and it puts necessary files on the server (see First-Time Setup below. Then, it is installed to additional workstations (see Additional Workstation Setup at the end of this article).

First-Time Setup

Example First-Time Network Setup (shown above): A network consisting of 3 workstations and 1 server. A first-time setup is completed on Workstation 1.

The first-time setup will establish a network location for client data files and ensures the workstation performing the first-time setup can run the software.

Follow the steps below to perform a first-time software setup on a network:

If TaxTools Workshop was already installed during a prior year, it does not need to be reinstalled. If a new module year is not available, check to see if the program needs an update.

Preparing for the installation

  1. Make sure you are logged on to the computer with administrator rights.
  2. Close all programs that can be closed.
  3. Make sure the network location is mapped with a drive letter.

Installation

  1. From one of the workstations, see How to Download Software from the CFS Website.
  2. Run the installer as admin and read the License Agreement
  3. On the next screen, select "To a multi-user network"
  4. On the "Choose Destination Location" screen, keep "Program location" to the C: drive, these are the files that are used to run the program on the workstation itself.
