Finding a downloaded file

These procedures assume the downloaded file was a setup file for the purposes of installing a program, but regardless of the file being downloaded the location it will be found in is the same, depending on the browser.

Google Chrome

  1. A download status box will be displayed in the upper-right hand corner of the Chrome window.
  2. If the file name appears in the manner it does above, click on it to launch it.
  3. If it does not appear, click this button to see the downloaded file. where it can then be clicked on to launch.

Microsoft Edge

  1. A download status box will be displayed in the lower-left corner of the Edge window. The box usually shows the amount of time remaining for the download to complete.
  2. When the download is complete the status box will a clickable 'Open File' link. Click this link to begin installing the software. In the example image shown below the installer for the Payroll System 2021 software was download. Each software product will have its own unique installer file.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. A download status graphic will be displayed towards the top-right corner of the Firefox window. The graphic appears as a blue arrow pointing down with a blue horizontal line underneath. The blue line is a progress indicator for the download and will appear as a solid line when the download is complete.
  2. When the download is complete click the download graphic and then click the topmost file on the pop-up list to begin installing the software.

Windows File Explorer

When a file is downloaded via any of the above web browsers, the file is not saved inside the browser's status box graphics. It is saved to your computer, and can be accessed through file folders.
  1. A shortcut to Windows File Explorer is usually found on the task bar in the bottom left of your monitor and looks like a file folder.
    The shortcut may be in the center of the task bar, or your task bar may be on another side of the monitor, but this is the usual location.
  2. On the left hand side should be a link to the Downloads folder.
  3. The Downloads folder sorts with the newest items first by default. The file should be at the top of the list. Double-click it to begin installing the software.
