CD install fails with message "Previous installation not found"

This issue generally occurs when attempting to migrate a CFS program from one computer to another, by first copying the CFSLIB folder from the old computer to the new computer, then installing the program from CD.

Cause

The installation software on the CD has erroneously determined that the program has been installed, and is attempting to execute an update. However, because the program has not been installed, the update cannot be applied.

Solution

The solution is to manually run the setup file on the CD as follows:

  1. Use Windows (or "File") explorer to navigate on the CD to the folder containing the program you are attempting to install (indicated by a two-letter abbreviation of the program name, followed by the year, e.g., "TT20t0" for TaxTools).
  2. Open the "Disk1" folder within the program folder.
  3. Run the "setup.exe" file in the Disk1 folder.
  4. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
Note that after installating from CD an update is frequently required. It might be preferable to download and install the latest version of the program from the Download Software page at our website.
