CFS Setup runs another vendor's installer

This issue is only common in pre-2009 programs.

When you run a CFS setup file, the first thing it does is expand the compressed file, creating a folder with a group of files in the TEMP folder. Then it runs SETUP.EXE to continue the process.

Cause

Under some circumstances, another setup procedure will leave behind a SETUP.EXE file in the TEMP folder, and the wrong SETUP.EXE file is executed. In that case, the procedure related to that setup, such as an update for a Norton or Creative Solutions program, is initiated.

Solution

The solution is to create a new folder and run the CFS setup in it.

  1. Right-click in the folder you are in (or on the desktop), then select New and Folder. You can name it whatever you want.
  2. Move the CFS setup file into the new folder by using Cut and Paste (not Drag and Drop):
    1. Right-click on the file, then left-click Cut.
    2. Right-click on the new folder, then left-click Paste.
  3. Double-click on the CFS setup in its new home, and it should install correctly.

How did we do?
