Client password protection

Clients in TaxTools WorkShop may be password-protected. See Program password protection to password-protect the entire program.

Customize when a password is required

  1. Click Tools > Options on the menu bar.
  2. Click Passwords.
  3. Under How long can a password-protected client remain unlocked?, choose the desired option.

Add a client password

  1. Double-click on a client to open the Edit Client screen.
  2. Click Add Password.
  3. The Create Client Password dialog will appear. Provide the required information and click Save.
  4. A prompt to confirm the password recovery email address may appear. If the client password is forgotten and emails cannot be recovered from the displayed email address, the client cannot be unlocked.
  5. When the password is created you will be returned to the Edit Client screen. Click Close.
  6. The password-protected client will have a padlock icon next to it in the Client List. It will be black when locked and white when unlocked.

Access a password-protected client

  1. Either left-click on a client and click Unlock in the Client's Files section, or double-click on the client's name. The Client Password Required dialog will appear.
  2. Input the password and click Submit. The client will remain unlocked for the period set in Customize when a password is required.

Retrieve a lost client password

  1. When challenged for the password, click Forgot Password.
  2. A removal code will be sent to the email address of the user that created the password. Input the removal code when prompted.

Remove or change a client password

  1. Double-click on the client to open the Edit Client screen.
  2. Input the password and click Submit. The Edit Client dialog will appear.
  3. Click Change/Remove Password.
  4. Input the password and click either Remove Password or Change Password.
