How do I download and install the single user version of a program?

Manual installation of the single user version from a download is described below in detail.

Preparation

Preparation for the installation means doing as the instructions say: close all other programs which can be closed, and disable any anti-virus software you have installed.

Also, make sure you are logged on with administrator permissions:

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Click on User Accounts.
  3. You should see "Administrator" under your account name.

Installation

  1. Download the setup file. See How To Download And Install Software From The CFS Website.
  2. Double-click the setup file to run it. See Finding a downloaded file.
  3. There may be a security warning asking if you want to run the program or allow it to make changes to your system. If so, click the appropriate response to run the file.
  4. The main window of the setup indicates the name of the program being installed in the top left. The sub-window within it is the "Welcome" dialog, the first page of the installer.

Click the Next button to continue with the installation.

If the "Welcome" window does not appear in two or three minutes, there may be a timing problem. Hold down the Alt key on the keyboard and tap the Tab key once. This should bring up a box in the middle of the screen containing icons for all programs that are running. Continue to hold down the Alt key and tap the Tab key until the "Welcome" screen icon is highlighted, then release the Alt key. If after three minutes the "Welcome" screen still has not come up, reboot the computer and start over.
  1. The "Software License Agreement" window appears.
After reading the agreement, click the Yes button to continue with the installation.
  2. The "Information" window appears. It describes how to locate your license code, the default directory for installation, and instructions for network usage.
After reading it, click Next to continue with the installation.
  3. The "Edit Firm Information" window appears.
    1. Client information (Customer ID, Firm Name and Address) may be filled in if there are programs already installed from this year or last year.
    2. The License Code may be filled in if there are other CFS programs for this year already installed. If there has been a recent purchase, the License Code should be verified.
    3. Fill in any missing boxes. If the License Code is not there or has changed and you copied it from the Download page, you can paste it into the field. Boxes after the ZIP code are optional; they are not required for program installation.
    Click Next.
  4. The "Choose Destination Location" window appears, showing where the program files will be written.
It is strongly recommended that you allow the program to be installed to the default location.
However, if it is absolutely necessary to install it to a different location, click the Browse button to select a different destination. The "Choose Folder" sub-window shows the path which will be used for the installation. Modify the path as needed and click OK.
If you choose another location, make sure no other program is installed in the same folder.

Click Next to continue with the installation.

  1. The installer will write the files to the specified location in the last step.
  2. When the install is complete, the "Setup Complete" window will appear with the text, "InstallShield Wizard Complete." If a "Yes, I want to launch..." checkbox is available, check it if you wish to launch the program, and click Finish.
