Form 1096 - Annual Summary and Transmittal of US Information Returns

Greg Hatfield Updated by Greg Hatfield

Payroll System now supports the current year Form 1096 and several prior year forms. This is because the IRS has converted most of the 1098/1099 forms into continuous use forms. They have a Calendar year field so that the user can specify the tax year, including a prior year. But since Form 1096 is specific for a tax year, we have included several prior year forms to support prior year filing. Be sure to use the red forms that match the tax year you are filing, or you may file electronically.

Form 1096 is used to transmit paper Forms 1097, 1098, 1099, 3921, 3922, 5498, and W-2G to the IRS. The form is a summary of the individual forms.
