How do I download and install an update from within the program?

John Logue Updated by John Logue

Most CFS programs allow you to check for and install updates from within the program, either automatically or manually.

Automatically Updating

If you have an "always on" Internet connection (DSL, cable, etc.), you can configure most CFS programs to automatically check for updates whenever you start the program. The program sends a query to to determine whether you are running the latest version of the program. If not, you will be asked if you wish to download and install the latest update.

To configure the program to automatically check for updates, open the Configuration menu and put a check in the box in the upper left corner (“Check for web updates when program starts”).

Manually Updating

If your Internet connection is not "always on," you should not configure the program to check automatically. You will have to remind yourself to periodically check for updates manually.

To manually check for updates from within the program:

  1. Establish an Internet connection.
  2. In the CFS program, from the Internet Options menu, select Update from the Web.
  3. The program will either indicate that no update is needed, or it will present a Download button so you can start the process.
