Submitting files

Users must process only one form type at a time for state filing because when you upload the file you must select the form type on the website.

Filers do not need to request prior authorization for electronic filing. If there are errors or problems with your file we will send a letter indicating the error(s). If you have any questions call (608) 266-2776 or send us an email at: w2data@revenue.wi.go.

Every employer or other payer withholding Wisconsin income tax from payments made in 2021 must file an annual reconciliation of Wisconsin income tax withheld (WT-7). Electronic filing options include:

My Tax Account – Free online filing and payment system.

Telefile– Enter your annual reconciliation using a touch tone phone.

Although the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requires other information returns, such as Forms 1098, 1099-A, 1099-B, 1099-C, 1099-DIV, 1099-G, 1099-INT, 1099-OID, 1099-PATR, 1099-S and 5498, these forms do not need to be reported to Wisconsin and reflected on the annual reconciliation, unless they report Wisconsin tax withheld.

If you do not have a Wisconsin withholding number and are not required to withhold, enter 036888888888801 in the wage or information return box titled "Employer State ID Number."

Employers may request a 30-day extension for filing W-2s and 1099s with the department.

Upon submitting a file you will receive a 13 digit receipt number. If there are errors or problems with your data, your file will be rejected and you will receive an error message. You will need to correct the error and resubmit your file.

• The test files maybe transmitted through our web site at https://www.revenue.wi.gov/pages/onlineservices/w-2.aspx however a test file is not required.
