CFS Sick Leave Policy

California law provides for mandatory paid sick leave under the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act (the "Act"). As of January 1, 2024, employers are required to provide employees working in California an annual minimum of 40 hours or five days of paid sick leave (PSL). This amount is up from the previous 24 hours or three days mandated effective July 1, 2015.

This paid sick leave policy is intended to comply with the requirements of the Act.

Employees cannot be discriminated or retaliated against for requesting or using accrued paid sick time.

If you have any questions about paid sick leave, please contact your supervisor.

Eligible Employees

  • All employees who have worked in California for 30 or more days within a year from the start of their employment will be entitled to paid sick time.
  • However, employees are not eligible to take paid sick time until they have been employed by the Company for 90 days from their date of hire.

Sick Pay Amount

Eligible employees will receive sick leave as follows:
  • CFS Tax Software, Inc. will provide employees with five days or 40 hours of paid sick time. Although the full amount will be placed into the employees’s leave bank, employees must meet the 90 day employment requirement before taking any leave.
  • CFS Tax Software, Inc. will place five days or 40 hours of paid sick time into the employee’s leave bank on July 1 of each year. Employees who have met the 90 day employment requirement will be able to access all five days or 40 hours of paid sick time at the beginning of each 12-month period.
  • Unused paid sick time will not carry over from year to year. The Company does not pay employees for unused paid sick time.

Qualifying Reasons for Paid Sick Leave

  • A "parent" defined as a biological, foster or adoptive parent; a stepparent; or a legal guardian of an employee or the employee's spouse or registered domestic partner.
