Submitting files

Massachusetts accepts electronic filing for Prior Years.
Massachusetts Corrections must be paper filed.

Before you process a file, if your W-2s contain combined Paid Family and Medical Leave Contributions, MAPFML, enter the information on any line in box 14 in the following format: MAPFML1234.56. For more information visit: Paid Family and Medical Leave Contributions.

It is the employer’s responsibility to retain all records pertaining to withholding for at least three years after the date the return was filed or the date it was required to be filed, whichever is later. The EIN on the “RA”, Submitter, record must match the EIN of the MassTaxConnect user.

Any employer who is obligated to file 50 or more W-2 Reports including ALL payroll reporting agents and third party service providers are required to attach and upload an electronic file through Massachusetts Department of Revenues, MassTaxConnect web-based application.

Once logged in to MTC locate and click, “submit reports”/go/ financial reporting/W2/W2 file upload/ select file.

Transmitters with files greater than the allowed bandwidth (5 MB) must register to use Bulk File Portal.
