Install Standalone Programs as a Single User

Toby Baker Updated by Toby Baker

When installing software you must have administrator rights.

Single User Installation

To install software on an individual personal computer that is not networked, follow these steps:

  1. Download the software installer from the CFS Software Download Page.
  2. Run the software installer as Admin.
  3. On the Welcome screen, click Next. On the next screen, read the license agreement and click Yes. Then on the Information screen, read it and click Next.
  4. On the Edit Firm Information screen, enter your information as it appears under your MyCFS Account or on your invoice.
By default, all firm information is stored and must be entered in all caps. Check for spelling, abbreviation, etc. If your firm information does not match what you expect it to be, please contact CFS support.
  1. On the Choose Destination Location screen, the program will default to C:\CFSLib\ProgramFolder. Click Next.
It is highly recommended to leave the destination folder as default to avoid conflicts.
If you get an error message during installation, please search it using our Knowledge Base. Most likely the error is already listed there with a solution.
  1. A progress bar will show as the installation begins. When finished, you can either click Finish or check the box to start the program now. For the purpose of this guide, check the box to start it.
If the program does not start immediately, most likely a Windows permission is blocking it. Check to see if a desktop icon has been created. If so, launch it from there.
  2. A User list will appear, if there is information from previous years, you should see listed users. If not, enter a user.
  3. Once the program opens fully, you will be prompted to import your database from last year. Follow the steps in Importing prior year clients/payees/preparers/labels.
