How do I move TaxTools Workshop and data to a new computer?

Toby Baker Updated by Toby Baker

To migrate TTW data to a new computer, follow the steps below. The steps differ between a Single-User and Network install.

Single-User Procedure

TTW data is encrypted. If you only copy the data from disk without doing a backup procedure, the data will remain in an encrypted state and may or may not be recoverable.
  1. In Workshop, go to Utilities -> Backup/Restore -> Backup Data To to back up your data as a .clad file.
  2. Install TTW on the new computer and move your .clad to the new computer.
  3. Open Workshop, sign in, then go to Utilities -> Backup/Restore -> Restore Data From and select your .clad file.

Network Procedure

These steps are only necessary if the network location itself (ie, a server or a workstation using a network share) is migrating. If you are only changing workstations but the network location stays the same, simply install TTW on each workstation and connect it to the network data path.
  1. Find where your data is installed on the network. If you are not sure, go to Tools -> Options and then under General look for Network Data Path. By default it will be a folder named "Tt".
  2. Copy that folder to the new network location. Then, on each workstation, go to the same location above and select Edit to change the place each workstation looks for data.
