Toby Baker Updated by Toby Baker

Cause

This error usually indicates there is a problem loading a .dll module due to in incorrect initial installation, or the file MagMedSub.mdb in the inis folder of your Payroll System installation is missing, or has been corrupted.

If the problem is happening when trying to work on payroll data, go to the first section. If the problem occurs when trying to create a DE9/DE9C, go to the second section.

This error may also occur alongside Error 3265 and Error 48

Error 0 when working on payroll data

In multiple places this article references finding the "inis" folder". To find this folder, see Finding the inis folder.
  1. If the error occurs alongside a message saying "MagMedSub.mdb is missing from the Programs 'inis' folder" go to to the next step, otherwise follow the steps at Trouble loading DLL then stop.
  2. Navigate to the inis folder for the current Payroll System program's installation directory, e.g. C:/CFSLib/Pr20yy/inis. (where yy is the current product year.)
  3. Delete the file called MagMedSub.mdb if it exists.
  4. Replace MagMedSub.mdb from another location. See below.
    1. If you e-filed W-2's or 1099's last year:
      1. Navigate to the inis folder in that prior year program installation directory.
      2. Copy MagMedSub.mdb from it to to the current year's inis folder.
        E.g. copy MagMedSub.mdb from C:/CFSLib/Pr2025/inis to C:/CFSLib/Pr2026/inis.
    2. Or, if you didn't e-file last year:
      1. Copy MmemptySub.mdb from the current year's installation folder of Payroll System to the inis folder.
        E.g. copy Mmempty.mdb from C:\CFSLib\Pr2026 to C:\CFSLib\Pr2026/inis.
      2. Rename Mmempty.mdb to MagMedSub.mdb.

Finding the inis folder

  1. Find where your Payroll System program path is located by clicking Help then clicking About from the main program screen of the year of Payroll System you're experiencing the error (make sure you have Payroll System closed).
  2. While you're holding down the CTRL key on your keyboard, press the I key (that's "i", not "L"). Your program path will be displayed:
  1. Navigate to the location specified in Windows File Explorer.

Error 0 when trying to create a DE9/DE9C

This seems to be an issue with an incorrect initial installation, most likely from incorrect user permissions.

  1. Navigate to the program folder. To see where the program is located, open the program and click Configuration and look at Data Options.
  2. Find the files titled vbuzip10.dll and vbzip11.dll inside the Pr202x folder, and copy them to the C:/WINDOWS/SYSWOW64 folder.
This step must be done on every workstation

If the above steps do not work, try to reinstall the program locally using the full installer, avoiding WSSETUP. Install to the C: drive of the affected workstation, and after it opens for the first time, click Configuration and change Data Options to the correct network drive.
